You should trust the power of intuition if someone is giving off an uneasy and weird vibe, walk away from it. If your gut is telling you that something feels off, listen to it, and learn to say no. Learning to trust your intuition will keep you safe and steer you in the right direction.
In between looking up at fun things to do while researching the place, take some time out and look at the safety information. From looking up the safest neighborhood, the safety ratings of the hotel, and the transportation to get around. Also, check up on the travel insurance if you are going to engage in adventurous activities.
Before going for the trip, make the best use of the online platform and look out for online communities and updates shared by locals and experts. You will find that the information you get from the locals who live there is much more reliable than other information. You can also ask questions to the employee of the hotel you are staying in.
Dress like a local to blend in; the more you stand out, you will be at the risk for pickpocketing or even catcalling. In some places, women can’t dress as they wish, and there is a need to cover-up, dressing inappropriately can be perceived as offensive. Along with trying your best to blend in, be confident all the time.
Be prepared for the worst-case scenario and keep copies of all your documents, including passport, identity card, and insurance. Take photos of it and keep them stored in the phone, laptops, and save them in cloud storage. In addition to the documents, keep a backup stash of cash hidden in case you lose your wallet with everything.
Check in Regularly with Friends and Family- It is a good idea to let one of your friends or family member have a copy of your itinerary in advance. Try not to go off the grid completely, plan how often you will check-in, and keep a consistent schedule. And if you do change your plan, let someone know about it as well. If you don’t have access to internet in your device, you can easily find internet cafes.
Getting travel insurance could save your life, whether you lose your luggage, or you need to go to the hospital, travel insurance will reimburse your expenses. They will provide you the security you need if you are robbed, and in the worst-case scenario, if you end up losing your life, it will allow your family to bring your body.
While it is perfectly safe to walk alone at night in some places, it is not in a few. It could be dangerous, even if the place is completely safe for women. If you are alone and you see families or couples, walk beside or behind them just to be sure that you will be safe. Should the need arise to g o out at night, ask someone to accompany you or talk on the phone.
