Malana

Malana is a tiny paradise of India, nestled amidst the towering Himalayas and bordered by the Parvati Valley in the north-east and Kullu Valley on the other side, lying in the shadow of the Chanderkhani and Deo Tibba. This ancient village near Kasol is known as the oldest republic in the world and has its own set of government and lawmakers. The Malana people believe that they have pure Aryan genes and are the descendants of Alexander’s Army. The local assumption is that Jamlu Rishi, a deity worshipped by the pre-Aryans, lived in Malana, and he is the one who set up the rules and traditions of the place. This village shelters a thousand tribal people, who are unique in their clothing and dialects, and live in little huts with stone roofs. Malana is world-famous for trading the high-quality and illegal hashish, Malana Cream. Even though the tourists have to register themselves before entering Malana, this Himalayan Village provides the perfect getaway destination for hipsters.

Top Things to do in Malana

Other than being an ancient village, Malana is a very prominent name in the international stoner’s culture, and hashish is the main attracting factor for most of the young tourists, if not all. Find out the things that need to be explored in Malana, including the weeds.

smoke with the locals malana
It is no secret why young tourists flock to this little village in the Parvati Valley. Once there, you will find locals smoking all day, and they will happily offer you a puff from their chillum. Be generous enough to accept because sometimes turning down the offer can be an insult to their tradition. While possession of such things is illegal in the outer world, it is legal and okay, according to the Malana Government. The Malana people consider weeds as part of their identity and are proud of the fact that people across the globe go gaga over Malana.
psy parties
If you are planning to visit Malana during the summer months, then Malana has something for you. Over the last few years, the trance and rave psychedelic parties have become very popular in Malana. They are held deep inside the woods of Kasol, Chalal, Tosh, and Pulga. The rhythm of loud electronic music in the woods, the unlimited supply of drugs, hashish, and ganja make these parties raving. Held from mid-May to the end of September, these parties take three to seven days to hit the ending note.
Hot Springs Malana
From Malana, you can also go hiking to the hot spring in Kheerganga in the Parvati Valley. The 13kms hike of 4 to 6 hours takes you through the Himalayan villages and pine forests, and across the green meadows until you reach the top. A dip in the springs with a breathtaking panorama gives you a worldly experience.
Jamadagni Temple
According to Hindu legends, Jamadagni is one of the saptarishis, the sixth reincarnation of Vishnu and the father of Parshuram. In Malana Village, they have Jamadagni Temple, and the outsiders are forbidden to touch that. The Malana people believe that the outsiders are untouchables that is why they keep them out of their sacred place of prayers. It is made up of wood and stone and does not have any electricity. You can have a look around but remember not to touch, because they can fine you for that!
